Functional performance in etch resist printing

SensiJet® Pyrite is a functional black UV curable ink for use in acid etch resist applications. Fixed with a conventional mercury halide UV curing lamp, Pyrite is ideal for digital relief patterning of stainless steel and other metals for digital engraving of cylinders, emboss rollers and emboss press plates. Additionally, applications such as LCDs and EMI and RFI shielding can benefit from using this ink within the process. Solutions may also be possible for dielectric insulation offering huge benefits in many applications.

Designed for manufacturing environments where accuracy is critical, SensiJet Pyrite shows outstanding printing performance and durability to a production schedule. SensiJet Pyrite is optimized to offer excellent adhesion when printed onto stainless steel and other metallic substrates. SensiJet Pyrite shows excellent resistance to typical acid etches.

Pyrite is tested for use in industrial piezo print heads, such as those from TTEC and Xaar.

Pyrite is tested in a number of industrial print heads to offer maximum flexibility in production printing.

Each print head, system and application should be tested and verified to ensure maximum performance.

How to use

Printing

In an etching process, SensiJet Pyrite is printed directly onto the selected substrate via a print fixture or system equipped with a specified industrial print head and inline fixation. Multiple layers may be required to allow a deeper etch to be realized. Once printed, the substrate is immersed into an acid etching solution, where the steel may be etched away leaving a relief patter where the ink has been printed. Once the process is complete, Pyrite can be removed with caustic soda. For other possible applications, Pyrite is printed and fixed to the substrate in-line prior to any further processing as required.

Fixation

After printing onto the selected substrate and fixed in line by conventional UV light exposure. The ink should be fixed within seconds to avoid any bleed of the color and loss of line accuracy.

Shelf life

Inks should be stored in a controlled environment at a temperature between 10-30°C. If stored under these recommended conditions, the inks have a shelf life of 12 (twelve) months. If the ink exceeds the shelf life detailed on the bottle, please contact Sensient directly for advice on continued use.

Fastness

Due to the range of potential markets, fastness for each substrate and application should be verified according to the requirements
